Philippines News Friday, October 16, 2009Migrante cries foul over delisting of 25 party-list groupsMANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has failed to conduct any hearing before removing 25 party-list groups from the list of registered national, regional or sectoral parties, organizations and coalitions, a Filipino migrant workers' alliance said today (Oct. 15). Migrante International chairperson Garry Martinez also said branded the Comelec decision as "highly irregular." Martinez said they will file a formal protest against the Comelec resolution. Migrante was among the 25 party-list groups delisted by the Comelec from the official list of registered sectoral party-list groups for failing to get sufficient votes in the 2007 elections. Besides Migrante, Abanse Pinay, Ak, PCDO-ACTO, PGBI, Anak Mahirap, Aba, AKO, Aging Pinoy, Ahon Bayan, Aksa, Akapin, Asap, A Smile, Assalam, BTM, Bahandi, Cocofed, Grecon, Nelffi, PMAP, SM, Sanlakas, SPI and Suara got axed by the poll body. - Dennis Carcamo (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)
