Games Without Frontiers: Bad Story, Great Game -- How Mediocrity Gooses `Gears of War 2`
Warning: There are many, many spoilers about Gears of War 2 in this column. Like you haven't already played it all the way through already, but whatever.Marcus Fenix staggered into the enemy's subterranean lair, squinting into the alien computer terminals. He couldn't believe his eyes. Could it be true? Humanity's arch-fiend enemies — the howling, braying Locust horde — were secretly fighting an internal civil war. And the only way to save Jacinto, the last human refuge, was ... to sacrifice it! Humanity would survive, but at what cost?Fenix reloaded his battle-scarred rifle. 'Come on, Delta,' he barked at his loyal, ragtag squad. 'There's work to be done!' Perhaps his father had been right. Perhaps ... uh ... heh heh ... ahahahahahaha ... Oh, I'm sorry. I can't go on. I'm laughing too hard to type.I'm trying to summarize the plot of Gears of War 2, because I finally sat down to finish playing the story all the way through. After I was done, two t

Nintendo sales could have saved Christmas stateside
Casual market saved gaming blushesSales of 'disruptive' Nintendo game consoles and software have apparently saved Christmas in North America, Electronic Entertainment Design and Research's Jesse Divnich stating that were it not for Nintendo related sales then gaming would be feeling the full brunt of the economic downturn.3.2 million Wii systems were sold stateside over Christmas, with 3 million DS handheld's also flying off the shelves.'Without these sales, the industry would have likely felt the full wrath of the recession - much like other industries closely linked to gaming,' says Divnich.'We believe the simple to use design, cheaper and wider variety of software titles, and the already ?hot effect? in place on both systems, all played a role in driving both the Wii and the DS to the top of their segments. Simply put, Nintendo saved Christmas.'Source: GI.biz

BioShock heading to Mac?
Macworld T-shirts spark debateRumours abound this afternoon that seminal FPS-RPG BioShock could be heading to the Mac; that's the word from Macworld who report that 2K's hit could be set for Apple's PC rivaling format.Sadly, this isn't the most 'concrete' rumour ever, speculation apparently prompted when Feral Interactive staffers attending the Mac expo were spied sporting T-shirts adorned with Big Daddy art.Of course, one has to ask why Mac-types would be wearing BioShock-branded clothes were the game not set for the format, but we're not taking anything for granted. That said, the game has been released on every other likely system...

Saints Row 2 Review [PC]
Technical problems mar this delightfully crass, immature, and over-the-top sandbox game.
